Creative Music Production is delivered collaboratively by IADT and the Sound Training College (STC), with appropriate modules taught in commercial studio and music production/practice facilities at STC.
Following a shared first year, students study one of two pathways:
Gain in-depth knowledge of recording studios and music production software. Focus on the integration of core sound engineering and audio creation skills through practical projects in professional facilities. Topics include: audio electronics, audio programming and production for games. Cultural context is offered via research-based modules. Focus on your interests through mentor-led projects.
Develop your musicianship as an instrumental performer while focusing on the creation of music and audio. This pathway develops your performance skills, while enabling and enhancing the production and practice of music and audio. Learn to use technology creatively (as opposed to constituting a pure music performance degree). Performance develops your primary musical instrument skills. Genre & Ensemble covers collaboration across instruments and creative solutions.
Creativity linked with technical prowess is central. The programme focuses on industry standard tools and processes, and the client/artist relationship. Diverse, student-driven major works in later years provide a platform to the working world.
Opportunities exist in a huge variety of careers in the growing music and new media industries, with new opportunities constantly arising. Previous sound engineering graduates continue to lead the worldwide music and new media industries – see alumni profiles here.
Postgraduate study options exist in Ireland and abroad.
Following your application to the CAO by 1st February, if you apply for the Music Practice pathway, you will be invited to perform an audition. If you apply for the Music Production pathway you will be invited to submit a portfolio via our Digital Portfolio Platform.
